2021 Genuine Hyundai i30N Facelift Turbo
One of the biggest improvements with the new 2021 i30 N is Hyundai's immense redesign of the entire turbo assembly. Hyundai is now producing a vastly more efficient turbo with a lot more headroom for tunability. The best thing about this turbo is that it fits on the pre-facelift model i30 N with ease. Making this a fantastic factory turbo upgrade that is better than any other high-flowed turbo.
Let me explain more, quite simply is just heaps bigger and flows way better.
The 2018-2020 model Hyundai I30 N factory designed the turbo to perform one function: give explosive low-end power and make the car feel like a high torque NA vehicle. Which They've nailed; however, to achieve this, they had to push the small TD-04 turbo to its limits. This highly-strung turbo is why people can't make significant power gains on the stock turbo with an average increase in performance of about 15-17% over the factory power with supporting mods. However, Hyundai has put their engineers to work, and they have designed a turbo that still drives similar but has the tuning potential to gain up to 45% more power with supporting mods.
Now you might be thinking, wow, 45% gains, that's amazing. Well, you're right. It is amazing. So much so that we didn't really believe it ourselves. Until we pulled a facelift turbo apart to understand the changes Hyundai has made. To put this quite simply, Hyundai has built a factory high-flow turbo. They have changed every single thing about the turbocharger except for the mounting flange locations, meaning all your existing parts will bolt up to or onto this turbo. Making it one of the best value-for-money turbo upgrades currently available for the i30N.
What we found when we pulled the turbo apart?
Firstly, they have swapped to a counter-rotating turbo design, meaning it spins counterclockwise. The reason why Hyundai has done this is to improve the exhaust manifold design, and straighten exhaust runners. Larger turbine housing, meaning more gas flow. A bigger turbine wheel and a larger billet compressor wheel.
What's all this mean? Well, it means this little turbo can produce 245kw at the wheels with supporting mods.
