Selecting Your Bearing Size
Buying engine bearings can be a challenging decision, but Hyundai has made it easy—if you know how. Below, we'll explain how to identify which engine bearings you need to buy for your engine.
Firstly, you'll need to know that each bearing size comes in a different color: blue, black, none, green, and yellow. Each color corresponds to a different sized bearing pair.
To identify which bearing set you'll need for your engine block, please note: we urge you to measure your bearing clearance before placing an order, as your crankshaft might have worn and the bearing will be out of spec. Using the wrong sized bearings will result in low oil pressure or engine failure.
Step 1: Identify your engine block clearance.
On the chart below, you'll find five letters stamped on the engine block. (Note: The placement of the letters could be on the right, not the left, as shown in the diagram.) (Side note: The four letters next to the five letters are the engine bore size.)
Step 2: Identify your crankshaft main bearing size.
The numbers are found on the end of the crankshaft, behind the harmonic balancer. You are looking for the first five numbers. These numbers can be close together, so don't get them mixed up with the second series of four numbers, which are for the rod bearing size.
Step 3: Selecting your bearings.
You need to combine the number and the letter together, using the matrix below to select the correct bearing size. I usually write it down on paper.
For example:
Bearing 1 (from the front of the engine, cylinder 1)
Crankshaft number is "2"
Letter on the block is "A"
This means main bearing 1 requires a "green" bearing pair.
What you get

1x Crank Thrust Bearing Pair
